Beetle id help please

Walking at Langfield Edge this morning I nearly stepped on this chap (or chapess?). I'm sure it is common but can anyone help with id please as I can't find it in my books.

  1. Hi Jeff
The nearest I can find is Carabus monilis although its UK status is Nationally Scarce (B)
Perhaps Linda has a better idea.

  2. Hi Jeff, yes I would agree that it's a Ground Beetle. As it's quite green it could be Carabus nemoralis which is found all over Britain. Nice photo. Linda
