Beetle id help please

Walking at Langfield Edge this morning I nearly stepped on this chap (or chapess?). I'm sure it is common but can anyone help with id please as I can't find it in my books.

Hi Jeff
The nearest I can find is Carabus monilis although its UK status is Nationally Scarce (B)
Perhaps Linda has a better idea.

Hi Jeff, yes I would agree that it's a Ground Beetle. As it's quite green it could be Carabus nemoralis which is found all over Britain. Nice photo. Linda

Thanks Linda and CW for your helpful comments. I've posted an update received today from Mike Denton.
