Heres just a sample of the New Intensity of Burning Off on the Walshaw Moor Estate from Oct 15 to March 16,all for the sake of artifically boosting the numbers of Red Gouse which then can be Blasted Out of the Sky, for so called Sport !!How this benefits Our Climate, and environment is totally beyond words. This victorian Practice needs consigning to the History Books Now,before there is nothing left !!

Totally agree. A ludicrously, antiquated example of bad upland management.

ReplyDeleteI couldn't have said it better myself Brian!
ReplyDeleteThere is some Breaking News regarding Walshaw Moor ,check out RSPBs Martin Harper Blog !! There is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.
ReplyDeleteOften there can be 3 areas of the Walshaw estate being burned at once so that 3 or more valleys can be smoke filled simultaneously. This is permitted into mid-April when birds are back on their territories and nesting with serious consequences
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to imagine another industry or activity besides Grouse shooting being allowed to so thoroughly and with little constraint, damage our internationally rare and important upland habitat.
