Fungi

A lot of the Blackthorn bushes have developing fruits as on the left in the picture but many of them have been infected by this fungus "Bladder Bullace fungus" Taphrina pruni.

I have never come across this before. Apparently the same or similar fungi can also cause 'witches brooms' on birch trees.

  1. I saw that one on Blackthorn at Cromwell Bottom LNR a few years ago. It was striking enough to prompt me to look it up.
