Hi ,I've been out of the loop for a while,so not sure if People are aware of this Important Petition by Dr Mark Avery to Ban Driven Grouse Shooting. The sheer Mismanagement of Burning And Drainage of some of our Vitally Important Peat Uplands as previously reported by Ban The Burn Campaigners, in order to Artificially Boost Numbers of Red Grouse which are then Shot ! is going to have a Profound Impact on our Environment and Wildlife.Dr Mark Averys Book Inglorious ,Conflict of the Uplands, tells it as it is in a very matter of fact way.We have a real chance of doing something about this Victorian Practice

ReplyDeleteThanks for that Brian, and the link to the tweet. I'll have a look.
ReplyDeleteSorry for slow response, I've been in the New forest for a week, and though I had the laptop with me, I didn't get chance to open it in a wi-fi area.
The more I understand the facts, the more I realise that the ban on driven grouse shooting must happen for the Uplands to recover from not only being robbed of their biodiversity through the mismanagement of grouse moors but adding to the risk of flooding in areas like Hebden Bridge. The release of emissions from burning of heather and sphagnum bogs being drained all adds to global warming too.On every level this makes sense. We are not suggesting banning all shooting(that is a matter for everyone's own conscience!) just the driven kind which results in so much environmental damage and illegal persecution of birds of prey. So PLEASE SUPPORT THIS PETITION
