Odonata at Copley

I returned to Copley Redevelopment site today with the hope of getting better pictures of the insect life around the ponds.
I saw many and managed to get images of most.

A Green Lacewing, possibly Chrysopa perla

Broad Bodied Chaser (Libellula depressa)
Female above, males below

I managed to get much better images of the female Common Darter
(Sympetrum striolatum)

A Large Red Damselfly (Pyrrhosoma nymphula)

Azure Damselfly (Coenagrion puella)

I also saw a number of butterflies.
Including this Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus)

  1. The Common Blue Butterfly is the star for me.
Shame the area is going to be built on.
Many of us fought long and hard for it to be kept as an open green space but were over-ruled.

  3. It's a great example of an area that looks like a waste land but actually supports a huge variety of species, many of which are very rare for the area. It will be a great loss when they do develop it.

  4. Just a quick update activity on the development site has been put back again until summer 2015. The site looks great and the ponds look better than ever. Residents have not given up fighting and will continue to do so! Andrew
