Hazel catkins

At the weekend I noticed in Todmorden that the Hazel 'lamb's tails' catkins were already opening to shed pollen. Notice also the tiny scarlet female flowers.

  1. Whilst out walking I have noticed that the trees are in bud, the insects are active and the flowering bulbs are starting to grow. Surely we are most likely to have a mid-winter freeze in February and it will to undo the premature awakening of life.

  2. The Hazel flowers or so small but well worth looking for.
