Fungi

This fungi was seen on dead trunk of a sycamore at end of December. Can someone suggest a name for it?

  1. It's Velvet Shank (Flammulina velutipes)
    Note the dark velvety stem. Young caps are also velvety.
    Appears when it's very cold.

  2. Thanks Steve, I should have taken note of the dark stem. Interesting it can survive being frozen solid.
