Ring Necked Parakeet

There were 2 of these birds seen over Mytholmroyd last Thursday and today there is one calling and being chased by 2 Jackdaws over Todmorden near the Tudor Chippy.

  2. Over the last two years there has been a trickle of sightings, usually of 2 of these, around the Sowerby Bridge area.

One (or possibly a Rosella Parakeet ) at West Vale yesterday. (Dave Sutcliffe.)

Ring-necked have been reported as visiting garden feeders near West Vale a few years back, and a roost in the Blackburn Valley (Barkisland) was reported, but I couldn't find it.

No breeding noticed so far that I know of, but could happen soon.

  3. Another report came to me of two last week near Sowerby Bridge Marina along the canal

  4. More parakeet sightings over the last couple of months. Two on successive weeks of single birds over the clubhouse at Elland golf club in late August. More recently a single and then a pair over the playing fields at the nearby Brooksbank school, elland.
