Buttercup

I wonder what these are in the buttercup?

  1. I think they're some species of Pollen Beetle, Philip.
They're often very numerous on Oil Seed Rape crops, though not a harmful pest as far as I know.

  2. Thanks Steve, that gave me something to work on and I am pretty sure it is Byturus ochraceus--Fruitworm Beetle. It is often seen on Ranunculus species.

The only other species in Britain is Byturus tormentosus--Raspberry Beetle which is a serious pest of cane fruits.

I hasten to add my sighting was not in our area but down in the midlands.
