Can anybody tell what is happening in this picture. Enlarge to see. A bit blurred - it was a hurried photo.

It looks like a spider has a fly in its deadly grasp.

This looks like a house spider with I think is a hover fly?

Both of you were correct. Next day there was only the dry husk of the hover fly left.
